Comment by Nancy Becker on September 6, 2012 at 7:27pm Hello!
Sounds like you've done some good research!
My Beckers start with Jacob Becker of Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany.
He married a Miss Rohrbach and that's about all we know. There aren't any in my family who are familiar with German.
Jacob's son, Adam (b 1811), came to the US in 1847 with his wife, Mary Newkomet, and four children: Adam, Mary, Phillip and Jacob. Two of Adam Sr brothers, Jacob and John, had already emigrated and John met the family in Milwaukee after they had traveled thru the canals and lakes.
The family settled in Davis, Stephenson County, Illinois. There were more children: John, George, Elizabeth, Henry, Helen and Daniel. Daniel is my 2G grandfather and I was raised on the farm he started in Cass County, Iowa.
Matthew, where in Iowa were your Beckers?
Nancy
