The Batchelders and the Sanborns

Well, you are going to LOVE this group because I have tons of stories on many of your ancestors, and I mean tons! You may want to check out my www.katsfamily.info site for some of it, but I have much more than what's there already.

The Sanborns are the grandsons of Rev Stephen, through his daughter Ann, so your mother and your father's lines merge at some point.

Rev. Stephen and his three Sanborn grandchildren (Their father had died before they migrated) along with others of his family, were among the original founders of Hampton N.H. The image I just added as this group image is from Founder's park in Hampton, where there are stones to honor all of the founding fathers of the town. This is the Batchelder stone. There is also one for the Sanborns. There is also a large plaque to commemorate the Rev. as he is considered the actual main founder. I have attached images of all three.

It's too bad he was made to be so unhappy there that he ended up having to leave.

I noticed many other surnames from your website in my tree as well. The stones are interesting. I wish I had been more involved with my genealogy when I was younger and living in NH. Now I'm just too far away to "pop in". I may have to take a trip some time just for genealogy research and pictures!

I know what you mean. I have many regrets regarding things I wish I'd done when I was younger regarding genealogy.

What other names do we have in common? I have started lists for some more of them, including Palmer, Haines, Tuck, Locke, Berry, and Aikman. If you have any of these names, you are welcome to join those too.

As for the stones I can't take credit for the pics. You can see the others and get a lot of information at this website about founder's park. I too want so badly to go there and do some research.

This is interesting. Seems like we have quite a few common ancestors. I have a Palmer group started, and there already was a Hilton one which I joined as well. My Haines group can also cover Haynes. I do have a Haynes in my tree, but I can't find her ancestry so I don't know if she is from the same family as my Haines ones or not. It would be really interesting to compare actual trees.

I see some names common to my family tree -- Brewer, Batchilder, Sanborn, Tuck. First time I've joined a forum and found a cousin! Do you happen to know the name of Ann Batchilder's husband (other than Sanborn)?

I would love to go to Hampton, New Hampshire and check this area out someday! I have been doing genealogy research for over 20 years. This year finally I became a member of DAR. When searching Anthony Taylor and his descendants out in a book that was Written by Harold Murdock Taylor, it even had my grandfather's name in the book Fred Arthur Pickett, so because DAR had this book it was much easier for me to join the DAR. When doing the Taylor research, I found out that Anthony Taylor brought land from John Cass, which is my 11th great Grandfather on my mother's side and Anthony Taylor is my 11th great Grandfather on my fathers side. Then 327 years later my mother and father get married in Colorado. What a shock this was to find out!

Rev. Stephen Batchelder gave money to the Plough group and one of my Ancestors, Thomas Miner came to American in 1629 on the Lyons Whelp which was part of the ships that came over from England.
