Hi Barbara, any program that can create a gedcom file will work with the Ancestry tree. Familytreemaker is the program associated with Ancestry and is tied into it's database for searching ease, but Legacy works just fine. I use Legacy and found it to be really user friendly

Hello, thanks for creating this group! I use Ancestry.com regularly and have found so much information to fill out my extended family tree. I have a question. I need to begin placing all my family info into a software program that is offline. Is there a program that really works well with Ancestry -- or doesn't it matter? Do you have a favorite software and why? Thanks!

I love Ancestry and I don't get to go in there as often as I would like. I've been using it for research since it came on line, more years ago than I want to think about ;) Although I have to admit, all the rapid changes have left me stumbling around in there a little lost at where to go to search.

Heather, I feel exactly as you do, I love finding new family members and sharing the stories, but I've had the same experience finding my research and documents added elsewhere without a hello, here I am, are you my cousin?

Elaine, I don't like when someone deliberately adds my info, documents, and pictures that I have taken time to research to their own tree and then won't send me an email to say, hey, we're related, thanks, or anything of that nature. Even just a "Hi, I'm so-and-so" and this person is in my family too" kind of email would be great. Then when I email them, they don't reply. It's very frustrating. I would LOVE to know all my distant relatives and hear stories about their families, but apparently not everyone feels the way we do.

Don't know what I'd do without my Ancestry subscription. I do get frustrated, though, when I try to contact other members who are researching my family and despite the fact they've checked in recently and claim to research daily, I get no response. One in particular is making me crazy. She has posted MY OWN personal information as well as my husband and children's and refuses to respond when I ask her politely to change the information to "Living."

I've been an Ancestry.com subscriber for many years now, would be lost without it. It is because of Ancestry resources, and the family trees online that I have found so much new info, and new cousins who have shared wonderful old photos, bible records and documents, that I would never have known about otherwise. I'd be happy to do lookups for anyone who doesn't have Ancestry. Also, keep in mind, many libraries and/or local historical societies and genie societies have access to Ancestry, and some libraries you can acess Ancestry from home, with your library card.

Where would we be without Ancestry.com, or .com.au or co.uk. I use them all.
At least with all the chances you get notification of what they are doing.

I'd be happy to help anyone out - I am quite addicted to Ancestry.com but agree that all of these changes they keep making are driving me crazy (although some are good!)!!
