Deborah,

I work full time and have been taking NIGS courses in American Studies for several years.  I am now in my advanced classes.  This past April I graduated from ProGen 4.  Before ProGen, I was completing an NIGS class every month.  After, I started ProGen, I completed an NIGS class every month.  I save my A&M until the end of a unit.  I did notice that this class took me much longer since it coincided to that period toward the end, where ProGen also gets more difficult (Proof Arguments, etc.).  It is doable and much more so, if you don't work full time.

I found that taking both provided a type of synergy, where each helped me do better in the other.

Hi all,

I'm in the American records program -- intermediate level (2 classes to go, including A & S Mentoring 2, which I want to register for before the end of the year).  I've yet to take any electives, so I have a ways to go.  My question, though, is whether anyone here has participated in the ProGen study group while taking NIGS classes?  Did you find that attempting both at the same time was "generally" a bad idea?  I get the feeling it is and that I should wait longer to put myself on the waiting list for ProGen.  I know a lot of it depends on my own situation -- but I'm looking for a general consensus here, if possible, to make the best, informed decision that I can.

Yet another person who's taking the Social Media Class.  This is my second class; I've completed one Methodology class and have signed up for two more classes starting in September.

Hi! I'm Jana. I"m taking the Social Media class also. I agree with Jamie Mayhew regarding Tumblr. I thought the website was very confusing and hard to use. With schedules and deadlines, I've decided not to be a blogger, not to use Twitter, and also to try to understand Tumblr. I'll stick with FaceBook.

Jamie-

Have you looked at these courses:

Irish: Understanding Ireland, History & Source Records

Scottish: Understanding Scotland

Irish: Electoral & Taxation Records

They all involve pre-1800 records.

I also signed up for this class as part of the Social Media course.  This is my first class.

My name is Lisa Ferrett.  I'm taking the Social Networking class at NIGS.  My father's ancestors appear to be primarily from the British Isles, arriving in the US before 1800, many of them much before.  I have not yet tracked any back across the Atlantic (except for the Mayflower ancestor, of course).

Hi, I am taking the Social Networking class and the beginning methodology course. I am learning so much.

I need some suggestions. I've finished all the required courses for my PLCGS in American research. I have 6 electives left.  My ancestry is German, English, Scottish, and Irish. All came to the US prior to 1800.  I've taken the English Civil Registrations but the class is for research after my families already left.  What suggestions do you have for classes on research specifically in England, Ireland, or Scotland prior to 1800.
