African Ancestored Genealogy

Dedicated to all things African Ancestored!

I like the inclusiveness of the term; it includes North America, South America; in fact the entire globe!

Another way of expressing this is the African Diaspora

From Wikipedia:

African diaspora; One of the largest diasporas of pre-modern times was the African Diaspora, which began at the beginning of the 16th century. During the Atlantic Slave Trade, twenty million people from West, West-Central and South-east Africa were transported to the Western Hemisphere as slaves.

This population and their descendants were major influences on the culture of English, French, Portuguese and Spanish New World colonies. The Arab slave trade also transported Africans from the continent, although the effect of the Diaspora to the east is more subtle.

It is my hope that you will participate in the discussions, contribute information, and basically get in where you fit in!

Troy Davis Has Joined the Ancestors; RIP

My dear brother, we prayed for you then and will continue to do so. Yours is the cause and concern for all of us Black men - who could be found in the wrong place at the wrong time. In this nation, we don't bode well by circumstantial evidence or the many pleading our innocense.

Troy Davis; there but for the grace of God, go I.

The message isn't lost on me. There's a larger lynching mentality blanketing this country and the climate is right for such behavior to grow. Now is not the time to get complacent or think it will never happen to us. Every Black man in America is vulnerable to such a travesty. That includes me.

Our only resolve is to be smart, be fearless, go in caution, speak out against injustice and remember Troy Davis.

Peace & Blessings,

George,

They are revealing themselves and how racist and small minded they are. Which raises the question of who the people were that put them in office. The only defense against them is to speak truth and keep moving forward. Not only are they ignorant and racist, they are evil. That kind of malicious attack can only be pushed back with the truth. That is to continue learning and teaching our history and how intelligent and resilient our ancestors were. We also need to call out those who support these racists. That is how we win.

Because The President Is Black

Pat Buchanan refers to him as 'boy' and 'coonskin'.
Doug lamborn refers to him as a 'tar baby'.
Mark Halperin calls him a 'dick'.

Do you think that the color of the President's skin had ANYTHING to do with the protracted BS over the debt ceiling?

Do you think that the color of the President's skin had ANYTHING to do with the underminding of his efforts to get this country back on track?

Do you think that the color of the President's skin had ANYTHING to do with the the Republicans and Tea Partiers knitpicking everything that he attempts?

Intelligent folks know to ignore these detractors. Intelligent folks know to filter out the wheat from the chaff in the media reports.

Intelligent folks know to they have an obligation to let their voices be heard and tell everyone who would listen to speak up and denounce these thinly veiled inferences of racism slurred at the President of the United States.

Pat, Doug, Mark and your legions - you are wrong and evil.

Memorial Day Celebrations & Family History

We have gone to church. We have pulled out the photographs of our current and Ancestral veterans of war domestic and foreign. We have honored our soldiers. We have tweeted, posted, cross-posted, re-tweeted and posted some more about our own known heroes and those mentioned in articles by others. Done! Servicemen and veterans; we

Not so fast; we're not really done here.

We need to put these brave, courageous freedom fighters into the context of our family history. Now is the time include their stories into our genealogy software and notebooks. It's time for our children to see a more focused family tree based on what they have just learned about their military relatives and Ancestors.

This is the perfect time to introduce genealogy to the uninitiated. Family history centered around the exploits of our military heroes could be the perfect school-end project for some of our young students. Of course, some kids have already done class projects prior to the Memorial Day weekend. Still, we can build on the momentum after the coals of the BBQ grill have died down.

By researching the family history around this theme, one may find a legacy of military involvement and heroism in a household that goes on for generations. Women and men were not only soldiers, but were medical support, manufacturer of supplies and trainers. They were a collective of 'Freedom Fighters'!

There's nothing more fitting than to put their stories into a genealogy software database; to be shared and enjoyed by descendants to come! You will also be adding to the canon and history of the American military experience. For some, particularly the African Ancestored and other minorities, you will be telling the unheard and untold stories. It doesn't get any better or more important than that.

Start that family history project today and begin with telling the stories of your military heroes you've been remembering on Memorial Day 2011. If you need help, just holler! I'm her for ya.

Peace & Blessings,

Congratulations George, Good Work.... As you say, "it isn't how far back you go, but how deep you go into your genealogy/family history.
