I am researching my Hamilton family. So far I have Gggggggrandfather. I am looking to go further back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. James Hamilton born 1729 in Monaghan, Ireland married Catherine (last name unknown). He came to Rockbridge, Virginia in or around 1750.
2. William Hamilton born 1755 in Rockbridge, Va. died 1825. He married in 1775 Elizabeth Mc Ferrin born 1757 died 1820.
3. Alexander Hamilton Sr. born 1779 died 1852 married in 1796 to Susannah Adamson.
4. Alexander Hamilton Jr. married 1830 to Cassandra Jane Lay.
5. John Alvis Hamilton married Mary "Polly" Yadon
6. Tilman Hamilton married Eldora McPhetridge.
7. Brady Wheeler Hamilton married Annie Duignan
8. Edgar Lafayette Hamilton born 1921 still living 2012.

Any help with James Hamilton's parents would be appreciated.
Most of our family is in Union County Tennessee….some went to Missouri & Kentucky.

Tina, there were two Eleanor Adamson, about the same age. I started a discussion with more details. I have considerable census records on the families of both Simon & Eleanor Routh Adamson and John & Mary Hammer Adamson - brothers living in Jefferson Co TN. They indicate Simon's Eleanor married Joseph "Henon-Herron" and he was actually Joseph Hearn - must be hard to read - and they eventually went to Texas. That certainly leaves your Nellie, daughter of John & Mary Hammer Adamson, available to marry John Tharp - and some of her siblings also went to Indiana and Iowa, and Nebraska. Sorry about the online databases....such errors are common when the names are the same.

Tennessee Adamsons:

I am researching a Ellen/Eleanor/Nellie Adamson (born Tenn about 1806) married to John Tharp b. Ohio - about 1812 - were??? Their eldest children are said to be born in Indiana - maybe Indianapolis. Their youngest - Martha - was born in Missouri about 1845. I find them in census records for 1850 (Japser Co, IA), 1870 (Page County, IA) and 1880 (Nemaha County, NE) - plus several Iowa State Census.

I suspect that Eleanor is the daughter of John Adamson and Mary Hammer (usually listed as Nellie) as she is the same age - http://www.quakersurnames.net/adamson.html (about 2/3 the way down) - but all the online family trees have her married to a Joseph Herron or Hearn and dying maybe in Texas or Tenn??. I suspect my Ellen may have been married to Joseph Herron but then he died so then she married John Tharp. The Tennessee Marriage records at Ancestry do list a Elenor Adamson married to Joseph Henon on 23 Jul 1829 in Jefferson Co but of course, there are no parents names.

Most of John and Mary (Hammer) Adamson's other children went to Jasper County, Iowa along with a number other families from Lost Creek MM. Which is another reason I suspect my Ellen is their Nellie.

I have the descendants of my Eleanor and John Tharp listed here - http://iagenweb.org/jasper/pioneers/tharp-john.htm . The Jasper County site has a lot more about the Adamsons and Hammers. I had found a book at Heritage Quest for Indiana Quaker minutes - but Eleanor is never listed, but lots of other Adamson's are....

Welcome Kay I have known about the Quaker Adamson's for quite awhile but so far I have been unable to connect my John with any of them. All I have on John is that he was born in PA in 1795. I am not sure when John moved to NY but I do know that from abt 1835 on he lived here. That is when his oldest son John was born. Minerva had family that lived in Tioga Co, PA and I wondered if maybe she didn't meet him there. So far I have found nothing but if you run across anything I would greatly appreciate it. It is so interesting to see how they migrated across the states. So interesting also is how your g-grandfather died in Ok but was buried in AR. Thank you for sharing your line.

I descend from John Adamson who died in Bucks Co, PA soon after 1753, through his youngest son Simon [b.1733; d. ca 1810, probably Jefferson Co TN]. Simon's son Jonathan [b. 9 Oct 1771; d. 1 Jun 1835, Wayne Co, IN] married Ruth Williams, daughter of Isaac and Rachel (Pike) Williams. The early families were all Quaker. Jonathan & Ruth's firstborn was David Adamson [b. ca 1793 in TN; d. 18 Jul 1828, Wayne Co, IN] David married Mary Ann Roberts and their firstborn son was Andrew Jackson Adamson [b. 21 Dec 1817, IN; d. 27 Oct 1869, Bremer Co, Iowa. Andrew married Rachel Ann Garner about 1835 and their son Enoch Reuben Adamson was born Feb 1840, IN and died 7 Jan 1910, McAlester, OK, but he is buried in Benton Co, AR. Enoch married Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Harmon - they were my great grandparents.

Ok so I'll start I am brickwalled at one of my ancestors. His name is John Adamson b. 1795 PA d. unknown m. Minerva Mulford b. 24 Jul 1805 d. unknown I know that Minerva grew up in Steuben Co., N.Y. and then they lived there for the rest of their lives. Minerva was the dau. of Dr. Ezekiel Mulford grand-dau. of Col Eleazer Lindsley, one of the first settlers in the county. I have not been able to find any info on John in PA.
