Nice to meet you as well! It has been quite enjoyable and interesting to learn about the Saurborn family tree. I have been fortunate to find a lot of information online. I know my father has a packet of ancestry information somewhere. I am hoping to track that down soon and see if I can get anywhere with it. As sad as it is to not have known a lot of my Saurborn family, it is very neat that while most people my age have at least 1-2 more generations in their lineage at this point, I can trace mine back a lot further in time with the large age gaps. My grandfather was nearly 60 years old when my father was born, and my great grandfather was nearing his mid 40s when my grandfather was born.

Have you ever been to the Saurborn family reunion? I believe it is only every couple of years.

I don't live too far from Wirt Co. and Calhoun Co., I am hoping to make it down there and visit Annamoriah and the Big Bend area.

Good luck in your continuing searches!

Hi Jessica!

Nice to meet you cousin! My great-grandmother was Louisa Almira Saurborn daughter of Peter Saurborn, She married Daniel Davisson Arthur. Their daughter Icey Dora Arthur was my grandmother. She was born in 1875. I missed meeting her by a few days unfortunately.

See my first note below about Peter's history. Mary Jane Bennett was from Monongalia County,VA./WV. born 1829. I'm still working on her parents etc.

Pam

P.S. I'm glad to see someone so young start on their genealogy. I started when I was just a year or two older than you are now.

Hi Pamela!

Peter Augustus Saurborn is also my great great grandfather. Would love to chat with you and see where we tie in on the Saurborn Family Tree.

My great grandfather is Alexander Francis Saurborn, son of Peter. He married Mary Ellen Criss, and they had (I believe) five kids, my grandfather being one of them. My grandfather's name is Winfield Saurborn. Considering that I am only 26 years old and my grandfather was born in 1889, I never had the pleasure of knowing him. Any information you could provide would be wonderful!

I realize this hasn't been posted in since 2009. Hope to hear from you!

My 2xgreat-grandfather was Peter Augustus Saurborn who was born in Prussia in 1819.He came to America as a Catholic priest circa 1840. He met Mary Jane Bennett. At that point he left the priesthood & married Mary Jane around 1845.They had 7 children. He was an early member of the Moccasin Rangers in what is now WV. right before the Civil War.The Rangers were a pain in the side of the Yankee's in early skirmish's.According to family lore a band of Yankee soldiers caught Peter & in order to make sure he was dead they beheaded him. They took Mary & the children out of their home & burned it to the ground. He was killed 15 Dec.1861.

His parents were: Martin Saurborn & Franziska Flugel. His grandparents were: Joannius Saurborn & Maria Anna Munsch & Franz Carl Flugel & Catharina Johanna Hisgene.

Anybody related? Or know anymore about the Prussian end?
