Welcome Pam & any other new members! Hopefully, you can hook up with some new cousins here & break down some brick walls.

I'm always looking for any information on Samuel Robinson and Mary Mcgill.  They were married in County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1849.  They shortly thereafter emigrated to Upper Canada and settled in Streetsville (now Mississauga, Ontario).  Samuel's son George Robinson changed the family name to Robertson in the 1890's.  If any of this sounds familiar to you, please let me know.

Cailin have you checked for newspaper obits. for your great-grandparents? Or checked the local county public library for information on your great-grandparents or their family? If they were from a rural area or small town I have had luck writing a Letter to the Editor in the local newspaper. The big city newspapers don't like to print the genealogy letters I have found. Give as much information as you have ,in your letter,on your great-grandparents & say you're looking for any descendants who may still live in the area. I have found several distant cousins that way! I would leave your name,e-mail address & snail mail address in case some people still don't have a computer. Good Luck!

I was able to get copies of the death certificates for my great grandparents Thomas and Catherine (Kate) McGlory Robinson. Both were born in the US and both sets of parents were born in Ireland but it doesn't say where. The handwriting is atrocious on the certificates so it's hard to make out the mother's maiden names. Looks like John McGlory and Mary Halry/Halsy/Haley and William Robinson and Anne Gawel. (Best interpretation). I haven't had luck on Ancestry and I have no idea what part of Ireland to look in for them.

Hi Brian!

Thanks for posting! I don't know much about Robinson's in Australia but maybe someone else does here. Have you looked on World Connect through www.Rootsweb.com yet? Best of Luck in your research!

Greetings, I am researching a branch of Robinson located in Victoria, Australia.

I have come to the dreaded brick wall with;

James Robinson, (my 2nd great grandfather)  Birth 1816 in Bishop Auckland, Durham, England and Death 3 July 1891. Arrival 5 December 1839, Hobsons Bay (Australia) Married Jessie Harden 30 January 1856  Geelong, Victoria

Any information would gratefully appreciated on either James or Jessie. Thank you, Brian Thorburn

Welcome to all new members! One of my favorite free sites is: www.genforum.com check it out as well.For those of you who don't already do this you might find the information you are looking for by going the "back door method". That means check out the spouse line of your Robinson to find information on your particular Robinson. Also, you might find information through your Robinson siblings. Another thing I have luck with is writing a Letter to the Editor of the local newspaper,where your ancestor was from, if it's a small paper. The bigger newspapers don't seem to print genealogy letters.I find most newspapers & libraries are on line today.So you can e-mail them.

Good Luck!

I first find Robinson in my tree about 1760 when a John Hamilton marries Elizabeth Robinson, I think in Northumberland County, but it could be a little south of there.  Their daughter marries an Ebenezer Robinson abt 1817 either around Pittsburgh or in Crawdford Co. PA.  He supposedly dies in 1833 near Zanesville, OH.  Their son John Hamilton Robinson is my G-Grandfather.  Any one know them or good research sources for them.

Hello - is anyone researching the Robinsons in the Gaspe area of Quebec?  Possible one or more were United Empire Loyalists.  I haven't had much luck so far.  Thanks for any assistance in this regard.
