One interesting thing stood out from my first review of Daniel Reaves' pension application documents from the Southern Campaign link. His children are listed along with birth dates (none of which I had), but Asa isn't listed. The youngest child listed is James. I have Asa's birth date as 1776, three years before the date Ellender gives for her marriage to Daniel. So I guess Asa wasn't her child. It also may give a little credence to the family story that Asa killed a man in SC, his first wife broke him out of jail, and they fled to TN. I had always thought Asa was the first of the family to come to TN, but Daniel was already here. Which could explain why he picked TN...

Pam, I just now noticed your last name. My dad's last surviving sister is Jean Drake, married to Peyton. They live in Rock Hill, SC.

Found this reference for Southern Rev. War pension applications. Daniel Reeves is listed and the info provided seems to support what my cousin John sent.

The following was sent to me by my cousin, John H. Reeves March 25, 2000, NYC, before he died. I have not researched the volume cited, so don't know if all this info is from it, or if John added some of it.

From "Abstract of Pensions of South Carolina Soldiers of the Revolutionary War" by Bell, Vol. 12, p. 54:

Daniel Reeves
b. S.C. on 10 Oct 1754
d. Smith Co., Tennessee in 1838
m. S.C. in 1775
to Eleanor_________, b. S.C. in 1758
He was part a pvt., Cpt. Eli Cashaw's Co., of the 3rd S.C. Regt., Continental Line for 14 months.

Their children were:

1-Asa Reeves, b. S.C. in 1776
2-James Reeves. b. S.C. on 10 Oct. 1780
They named their first child James Asa Reeves, and then took the James off when they named their second son James in 1780.

Son of:
John Reeves
b. S.C. in 1720
d. S.C. in 1790
m. S.C. in 1745 to Nancy________, b. S.C. in 1725
