The Byrne surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'Of Byram,' a township in the parish of Brotherton, Yorkshire, formerly Byrom.

Thank you Pamela Drake. I already have, just waiting for her to reply back. I have been researching this line for many years and finally was given some old letters with very small hints in them. I followed them and discovered more than anyone has here-to-for known for at least 2 generations. Thank you for providing a place for me to connect and find family.

My 2xgreat-grandparents,Thomas Byrne & Mary McAndrew were both born in Ireland. They were married in Washington,Daviess Co.IN. 28 June 1839. Thomas Byrne might have been from Cork,County Sligo,Ireland & Mary McAndrew might have been from County Mayo,Ireland.I think her parents were: John McAndrew & Bridget Saunders. I don't have a clue who Thomas Byrnes parents were. I understand the original name was O'Byrne. Thanks!

Sarah J Byrne is from a family of at least 10 children, 7 were alive in 1911, when their father Thomas Byrne was on the Ireland census at age 79. I believe he died shortly thereafter. 4 of his children immigrated to the US, Stephen, Sarah, Anne and James. They were not from County Cork, and I think that may have been a stumbling block for you. They were from Newtownbarry, Ferns, Wexford, Ireland.

He marries a dutch girl Anne Esliger/Sleiguer (aka Ann Janr Esselinge van Hesselingen?), whom I suspect a fresh arrival form South African. Their daughter Lucille Burn marries into an Acadian family, Edouard Bernard, my 3rd great-grand-parents.
