Hope I can explain this. Isaac Stackhouse is the Patriot. This all revolves around Monroe County Co. and across the Ohio River in Wetzel Co. ISAAC was born in Hampshire Co. WV and died in Monroe County, Ohio. on the Ohio River. Isaac sired JACOB STACKHOUSE {fact} In GenCircles Jacob sired JOSHUA WOODS STACKHOUSE who is my GG Grandfather born in 9 Jan. 1823 in Hanover, Columbiana Co. Ohio, also on the Ohio River. Died in Wetzel Co.WV. in 1912. There is also a Joshua Stackhouse born the same time in Clinton Co. Ohio. This county is in the South Western part of Ohio near Indiana. Don't think this was Jacob's son, because they were all living in counties on the Ohio River. The problem is in Ancestry it has both these two Joshua's mixed with the decendants that I am sure of. The JOSHUA that died in Proctor,Wetzel Co. WV was were my G Grandfather lived and he and Joshua are buried there. The Census of 1880 has Joshua's parent' s birth blank. These two Joshua's have different wives. Mine has Mary Jane McFarland as his wife and the other has Ellen Jane Spencer. There are several families on ancestry with all the same relatives except for Joshua. Some people have Him and wife Spencer and others have the one with wife McFarland, but everthing else is the same. My Joshua has parents unknown which I find hard to believe. I'm stuck. The GenCircles has my Joshua as a son of Jacob. Ancestry has Joshua from western Ohio as the son of Jacob. Any advice of what to do now would be relly appreciated. If I can't connect my Joshua i have lost my Patriot. Dianne

I checked vital records gor him[ joshua] I have his son George death cert. listing Joshua and Mary McFarland as parents. They are buried at proctor , Wetzel county and have the name of the cemetary. So I know he is George's father. Would think Vital records would have his record. dianne T HANKS SO MUCH WILL TRY fAMILY SEARCH LABS.
Yeah, I searched the WV vitals too and only name close was J.W. Stackhouse born 1902, and listed again as John W. Stackhouse. it does seem odd yours isn't listed but perhaps the index isn't complete as yet for that county. Will let you know if I find anything that looks like a connection.
Soooo, were you saying that's NOT your Joshua I listed above in Proctor?

Thought the book info might lend some insight??

History of Clinton County, Ohio : its people, industries and institutions, with biographical sketches of representative citizens and genealogical records of many of the old families

THE ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-NINTH REGIMENT, OHIO NATIONAL GUARD.
The One Hundred and Forty-ninth Regiment of Ohio National Guard was organized
and mustered into the service at Camp Dennison, May 8. 1864. It was composed of the
Fifty-fifth Battalion, Ohio National Guards, of Cliutou county, and the Twenty-seventh Regiment, Ohio National Guards, of Ross county. It was enlisted in the federal service
for one hundred days and left Ohio for Baltimore, Maryland, May 11, 1864. It remained
on duty at the various forts and stations about the city of Baltimore until May 29, when
it was ordered to the eastern shore of Maryland and distributed at various points. From
the history by Whitelaw Reid we find that "about the Fourth of July the regiment was
ordered to Monocacy Junction, and on the evening of the 8th it took position on the
extreme right of General Wallace's army, at the stone bridge, on the Baltimore and
Frederick pike. Early in the forenoon of the 9th, the regiment's skirmish line was
attacked, and the fight continued until late in the evening, when the regiment was compelled
to fall back, though not until the left of the line had given way and the regiment
was nearly surrounded. When a retreat was ordered, General Tyler, the brigade commander,
directed the One Hundred and Forty-ninth .to hold the bridge until the last
extremity, in order to secure the safety of the army." In this engagement the regiment
suffered the loss of about thirty killed and wounded and over one hundred prisoners.
However, many of the latter were recaptured the next day by General Hunter's cavalry,
at Frederick, and some made their escape; but when the regiment was mustered out,
sixty-seven of its men were in rebel prisons, and some of them died there. After having
seen more hard service than usually fell to the lot of hundred-day troops, the regiment
returned to Ohio, August 20, 1864, and was mustered out. The roster follows: Captain,
William C. Wilson; first lieutenant, James V. Rammels; second lieutenant, Newton
Shoemaker; sergeants, Edwin Shockley, John M. Johnson, James J. Gregory, Edward P.

which was later Increased to its present capital of $100,000.00. The thousand onehundred-

Like I said there are 2 Joshua's the one born in Clinton can't be mine, because his parents and grandparents were living clear across the state. That Joshua has Jane Spencer for his wife and mine has Mary Mc Farland for his and they were married 60 years. So is not wife no1 or 2. Dianne THANKS SO MUCH
That,s my Joshua in Wetzel county.Died there in 1912. He is with his grand daughter. Not sure who her father was. Didn't see her listed as any of George's children. My grandmother Ella was George's daughter along with her sister Lucy. JW Stackhouse are the same initials as Joshua Woods Stackhouse. Did it say who JW Stackhouse's father was?
oh, sorry, my mind is gone today, I read your query, and my brain went right to Joshua instead of Isaac! Isaac's RW pension files says he was born 1751 Hampshire Co,VA. You probably have that already.Lived at Cheat River when called into service, then Harrison CO, VA, then Moosefield, VA. Since the war he lived in Harrison co and then Monroe co, where he now lived. Well, darn no family listed.

Most of the references to an Isaac that I see are for Pennsylvania.
========================================

end of the book reference that I posted in my first post:
Amos Stackhouse was Inscribed on the roll under the act of May 1818 at the
rate of $8,00 per annum.ROSTER II (OHIO D M 1938) shows Bounty Land Warrant
No. 509-100 NJ for this soldier. The 1840 census shows an Amos Stackhouse
age 82, living with Joshua Hinds In Homer Township, Athens Co. Ohio, so It
seems that this man did not live In Guernsey Co, very long.
Since this soldier obviously left no descendants (see his statement above
about not having any children) we refer the reader to:
ISAAC STACKHOUSE - born In Hampshire Co. served from Harrison Co. Va.
filed for pension while living In Monroe Co, Ohio
(see MONROE CO, OHIO GENEALOGICAL RECORDS, VOL. V, pages 10,11,12
1967 - by Catharine Foreaker Fedorchak - note - this ref. also
mentions a Jacob Stackhouse who signed an affidavit for Phillip Koon)
JOHN STACKHOUSE - Soldier from Harrison Co. Va. - WEST VIRGINIANS IN
THE REVOLUTION by Ross Johnson, pub. 1959 W.Augusta Historical and
Genealogical Society, Parkersburg, W.Va. - page 263
Isaac was married to Bethia Woods? I think thats were my GGrandfather got his middle name.Isaac's children were Epaphroditus B. 1810 was found in the 1840 census Hannah, David, Barbary, Charlotte, Jacob 1791 in Ohio , supposedly Joshua's father. I started thinking John was my Patriot, but he's not listed as a child of Isaac. They were together taxed in Harrison Co. Maybe his brother. The county of Harrison they were in is now Randolph county. Isaac's land grant was outside of Elkins WV, as of now. The name Stackhouse is not the most common name, but their history is certainly confusing.
ok, I see William's death also lists Joshua and Mary McFarland as parents. oops, no it doesn't it lists George & Mary McFarland as parents. Looked at WV site marriages and see William married at the home of George (no wife listed though, thought it might show both to see if it was the same as familysearch , then looked at death certif on WV site and it shows George & Mary McFarland as his parents.
HMMMMMMM, guess that brings up more questions!
That is wrong I have George Woods Stackhouse death certificate, also his Wife's Sarah Powell. My mother told me stories about George and Sarah coming down to Fairmont to visit in the 1930's. Both of their death certificates have each others name as Spouse. Are we talking about William L.Stackhouse the son of Joshua S. and Mary McFarland's. I wish I had access to more sites. I'm on Ancestry and Footnote, my biggest problem is I live in a rural area and have dial up, and don't have access to DAR site. Dianne
I don't have access either, just pension index/pages, I don't have any subscriptions, can't afford to. Used to have ancestry and loved it. I'm not sure all the DAR stuff requires a subscription? What I posted was the ONLY pension info that came up for that surname. But the DAR stuff should be online , seems I was in it... I'll have a look for more info for ya. Besides the books I posted, the other info came from familysearch and the WV vitals site both are free! Anything I find is pretty much from free sites unless I have help from a friend with access to one. There are lots of sites online but it does take time. Ancestry has the most info available anyhow.
