Who knew that a Packard was a friend of Abraham Lincoln. Fascinating. There's a lot of information about Packards out there, so I'm not surprised one bit. That's why I created a Packard family history blog called 'Packed with Packards'!

I'm researching the DEMOULIN, FOULON, and BESIN families. They all immigrated from France to Madison, Bond, and Clinton Counties in Illinois around 1850. In particular I'm looking for information about Susanne Besin who married Nathan Demoulin. She was born in France in 1840 and died around 1871. I can't find where she was buried or her death certificate. I believe that Nathan and Susan's only boy is my grandfather, John Buchanan. Family legend says that he ran away from home at the…

I can't find where she was buried or her death certificate. I believe that Nathan and Susan's only boy is my grandfather, John Buchanan. Family legend says that he ran away from home at the age of 14. Our family now believes he also changed his name from Demoulin to Buchanan. Possibly an anglicized version of Besin?

Right before he died he told his daughter-in-law, my grandmother, that he was born in Highland, Illinois, his mother's name was Susan "Boo-shan" (no spelling, just pronunciation) and that she was from France. He said that his father's name was Nathaniel. After 25 years of looking, I have found a family that matches his description. The 1870 census shows a little baby in the Nathan and Susan Demoulin family named John (my grandfather was born in late 1869). They lived on a farm in Clinton County near Carlyle.

At this point I'm interested in find stories about the family between 1870 and 1885.
I am researching for more information on William J. STEPHENS. He was born February 13, 1850 and married to Anna RUSSELL in 1870. I found William in the 1860 cenus. He was living with the VAUGHAN/VAUGHN family. William died, I believe sometime after 1894. Anna moved all her children to Lawrence County, Indiana by 1900 census.

Who are William's parents? If the 1880 census is correct, his dad was born in Pennsylvania and his mom was born in Ohio.

RUSSELL and family lived in Hancock County, IL in 1870 and in 1860 they lived in Hamilton County, Ohio and in the 1880 census they moved to White County, IL. William's daughter Anna RUSSELL married William J. STEPHENS on February 13, 1870 possibly Hancock County or Henderson County. They lived in Henderson County in the 1870 and 1880 census.

I am researching Vermilion County, specifically the areas of Danville and Catlin., because my ancestors lived there working the coal mines. The family names I am researching are Jones and Thomas and the various in-laws of those families. I live in Texas and have found a lot of information but still need more to fill in the gaps of the written family history. The Thomas brothers John and Thomas arrived in Vermilion County sometime in the mid to late 1850's to 1860's.It is said that they…
