Many members are no doubt watching the Library of Congress project, "
Chronicling America," grow with great interest.
I have used it mostly to locate extant newspaper editions for specific towns and counties (the "FIND" option). As the archives are digitized, those same archived papers will be searchable from the site.
While copying the link today, it looked as though yet more a few more digitized archives have gone online (the VIEW option), so that select papers from more states are searchable from the site. The site "View" notice now reads (emphasis added) "View newspaper pages from 1880 to 1922 from the following states:
California,
District of Columbia,
Florida,
Hawaii,
Kentucky,
Minnesota,
Missouri,
Nebraska,
New York,
Texas,
Utah, and
Virginia."'
Separately, last week, I found a few sites created by local partners/repositories to the project. Seemed some of those sites are making digitized archives available on their Internet sites, too. --GJ
