Have tried for several years now to find my brickwall, Stephen Pellom/Pelham and other spelling variations. Stephen is listed as being in the Revolutionary War and signing on in New Hampshire. He also served in Vermont.

Stephen died on October 7, 1786 in Thetford, Orange County, Vermont.

At a Court of Probate holden at Thetford in said District on the first day of February 1793. Present Timothy Bartholomew Esq. Judge. It is considered by this Court, that the widow of Stephen Pellom late of Thetford in said District deceased, be allowed the sum of six pounds, two shillings and 2d, being all the articles contained in the inventory of said Stephen, excepting the house therein mentioned. It is further considered, that on examination, it being found and made to appear to this Court, that the residue of the estate of the said Stephen, will no pay any man. (?) than (/) for the Doctoring of the sd Stephen in his last sickness, funeral charges and the settling said estate as it respects the administration thereof without paying any part of the Creditors any share of their several claims It is therefore ordered that the administrators to said estate, do pay the espense of the last sickness of the said Stephen, his funeral expenses and the cost that hath arisen in pursuance of Letters of administration, being granted them and in complyance sd administrators to be discharged from their said trust.

Attest J.P. Buckingham Regr.

From an old document at the Thetford Historical Society state that on May 5, 1786 "Stephen Pellom and family, Jemima Pellom, Irene Burros...." were warned out of Thetford.

In Peter Olcott's (of Norwich) account books in Dartmouth's special collections has an entry for Stephen Pellom dated Nov. 26, 1785 and states "Stephen Pellom Negro [of] Theadford."

Thetford Historical Society transcribed pages in Rev. Asa Burton's “The Records of the Church of Christ in Thetford, Vt. 1773 - 1832” and states the following:

Page 145: A Record of Births for ye. year 1780
Jemima Pellom a Child born February 1780

Page 189: A Record of Marriages
Cato Leso married to Betty Pelham October 1791.

Page 209: Record of Deaths for ye year 1780
The Son, and infant, of Jemima Pelham died March 1780

Page 211:
Stephen Pellom died October 7, 1786

The Pellom's were colored people and listed in various census records as Other Free People, Mulatto, Negro and White.

Stephen had one son that I know of named Martin Pellom/Pelham who was born abt. 1773. Martin died Apr. 27, 1850 in Guildhall, Essex County, Vermont. Have

Martin and Ukn. had the following children:

1. Martin J. Pellom/Pelham, male born about 1813 Vt., died Apr. 29 1851 in Guildhall, Essex, Vermont

5. Nancy Pellom/Pelham, female, born Jan 21, 1824 in Vt., dided May 25, 1889 in Hartland, Windsor Co., Vt.

Nancy is my grgr Grandmother and married to a Roswell O. Spaulding. They divorced and had children. Nancy's death notice states she died on cancer of the womb and was mulatto.
