My ancestors, as far back as currently traced were: DUNCAN KENNEDY & MARY BUTTER(S?) ( BUTTAR/S?), wed at KEPPOCH on 6TH FEBRUARY, 1808. Their marriage was registered at KILMONIVAIG. I have a photocopy of the page.DUNCAN was professional fisherman, according to the register. Mary's surname is a bit unclear as to the er or ar. I have researched on the web, and even enlisted the font-of-all-knowledge for Kennedy history, the remarkable Iain Kennedy. The DNA one-name sample sees me linked to Cameron of Kilmallie, so I'm stumped. From Duncan down to me, I have a direct line of descent through JOHN KENNEDY, of GLENCOE, ARGYLESHIRE, who migrated to AUSTRALIA, in the 1840's and here wed a widow, named MARGARET DRANE ( Nee MC PHEE ), also formerly of GLENCOE according to various birth certificates of their children. Margaret claimed fame as the first person to discover gold at BENDIGO, in Sept. 1851. Never left me an ounce of dust. Does anyone have more information on my great great great grandfather, Duncan, please? One of John's sons was also named Duncan Donald Kennedy, born 22 Nov 1855, who later became a police constable in Victoria, and according to stories told me in my boyhood, he made several trips back to England on prisoner escorts. Perhaps he visited his family village in Scotland. Another family story has it that an UNITED STATES Army or Marine Captain, named Joe or Jock KENNEDY visited STAWELL OR WARRACKNABEAL, during WWII, seeking my grandad, KENNETH KENNEDY. Unfortunately, Kenneth and Amy were on holidays and he missed them and did not leave a contact. At that time, there were thousands of Americans camped in Ballarat so he may have been one of that number. This tied in with another story that one of the early Kennedys from Australia actually moved to America. My email, if you cannot get me here, is blacksnake979@hotmail.com Kind regards from Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. Peter R. Kennedy
