Just curious which image format people are using to record/scan/archive items of interest. While jpeg is popular and compact, concerned about it's lossy compression and long term viability.

I've recently began scanning old photos & documents and saving them in uncompressed tif format. While the quality is good and the format is compatible with most apps, the files are large in size. I've also seen the djvu format.

Thoughts?

Like you I am also scanning photos in the TIF format. These files, although large, are my master copies which will be stored on an external hard drive. Eventually, I may store the master TIF files in two locations just in case Mr. Murphy shows up (Murphy's Law). For display in Legacy and any other purpose I will "save as" in JPG format. The JPG files are stored in a folder different from the TIF folder.
