Duplication?

I am just curious...how is have a group for say..American Revolutionary War ancestors and then having a forum category for the same subject matter, not a duplication?

Not a complaint, just wanting to know what is the different usage or purpose.

I don't really know, but thought threads posted at the group "Discussion Forums" being broadcase to the home page "Forum" section?
Perhaps more importantly, because so many groups have been set up in anticipation of categorization, duplicate groups are being created. I've been effected, which is what led to my discussion, "Gimme some Aretha ..." earlier today.
We've all been working hard.
