Hi, I have a ? My sister and I married cousins. This was 30+ years ago. The whole family has been arguring for years over the relationships between my children and her children. They are first cousins because their mothers are sisters, of course. But, everyone has a different name for what sort of cousins they are since their fathers are first cousins. The children are all obviously related twice, Any good ideas on what you call the second relationship? Thanks

The second relationship is second cousins.  Note--second cousins have the same great-grandparents, while first cousins have the same grandparents.

Thanks, that is what my Mother always said, she will be happy you agreed with her. My Mother-in-law and my sister's Mother-in-law, (who are also sisters), always said that the children were second cousins with the fathers, and third cousins with each other when it came to the second relationship. The children are all grown now with their own children, but some of their children are confused because our kids always called the fathers Uncle, since we sisters are the Aunts. It isn't that complicated to me, but it sure seems to be confusing to many people
