Can anyone help me find out information on my Grandad's brother?

Hi,

My name is Laura and i'm trying to find out information about my Grandad's brother. My Grandad died about 7 years ago and he and my Grandma always wanted to know more about what happened to his brother.

What my Grandma knows from a newspaper article is that:

His name was Richard E Jones

He died aged 20 (the article says died at sea as he was in the Navy)

His home address was Dunn Place in Newcastle upon Tyne

He was a motor mechanic in the Navy

She thinks he died in the1940's.

We'd really like to find death certificate, more information on how he died and it would be amazing if i could find any photos for her.

Many thanks

Laura

I had a quick search on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website with no luck. There is a Richard E Jones Navy death in 1943, but he was 23 and from Cheshire. I presume your Uncle died sometime after the war ended?

A lot of the overseas death information is held nowadays by the National Archives Record Office at Kew, maybe you can pay a visit there, I see you live in Surrey.

Evidently, if you are sure he died aged 20, maybe you can look for his birth record. From that you can work out the year he died and narrow your search at the Archives.
Thanks Sean. I'll give that a go. Thanks for looking for me :)
