Hi Everyone: My name is Linda and I just joined the group and already I am having a blast. My great great grandparents where on the Brennan side were James Brennan Sr. and Julia Doughan who left Ireland and ended up in a place called Sheenboro/Chapeau/Iles Allumettes (or Allumette Island) in Quebec Canada. His son James Jr. my great grandad was born in Sheenboro and married my great Grandma Olivine FLeury and they had 3 kids. William Brennan, Rose Brennan and my grandpa Thomas Brennan. These are on my mothers'side. I live in Ottawa Ontario Canada just a couple of hours away from their burial site. , I can speak french and can translate some latin as many church records in those times were in Latin. I just came from a Brennan/Fleury Bones and Stones Tour in the Sheenboro area and took photos of Meehan/Brennan/Fleury tombstones. What floored me the most is that The Brennans were sent there among others to clear the land and most of the people in the cemetaries there which are quite small, married among each other and a big percentage is related. One sad thing however what at one of the cemetaries (St ALphonse de Ligouri) a new priest came along a few years ago  and didn't like the cemetary's set up and litterally bull dozed the stones into a ditch and wanted to start over. He of course left the bodies buried there and of course wasn't too welcome after that by the parishoners. I was very lucky to find most of my relatives including James Brennan Sr. Unfortunaley James Brennan Jr. and Olivine FLeury were nowhere to be found. That priest was some piece of work. When I visited the cemetary, I went into the ditch and could see stones buried under the sand. I am quite sure he angered quite a bit of people. Someone mentioned a Patrick Brennan. There is one there my Great great grandfather's brother who married a Bridget Meehan. Is it possible for someone to show me how to post pictures of those stones. Also, I need to brush up on my latin and french and will be pleased to help people who may need some help and If I cannot will show you where to get it. Thanks . My name is Linda Berube Perrigo Inch. My mother Colette Brennan married Edgar Berube (The Berubes from Damien Berube in Normandy). My dad Edgar was born in Cabano Quebec Canada.

No relation but I know 2 people on this site that might be. One goes by Sonia and the other is Bob Mooney(mooneysearch) Sonia lives in Canada at the moment.

Hi Linda....Thank you for your help...The Meehan's in Sheenboro Quebec are John Meehan and his  family. John is my gr gr grandfather Michael Meehan  of Huntley On brother. Both brother's are from Churchtown Cork Ireland, arrived in Canada 1823 by the Hebe ship of the Peter Robinson Settlers...

Thanks for some of the information on John family specially his 2 sister's Theresa and Bridget Meehan who both arrived later in 1840's.. and that John family is related to the Hayes Family...without you I would not have known all this...They are long lost relatives of mine including you...My Dad would have been so happy to know about his great grandfather brother's family...But sad he never knew them in his time...only that John moved to Chichester Quebec and never heard of him again....

I am so happy you found me on the Ancestry and we both met for coffee in Ottawa On...Then later took a trip to Sheenboro Quebec...Glad I met one member of the Meehan family of John Meehan..another long lost cousin...

Many of my family of Michael Meehan were so happy to hear about my trip to Sheenboro, Quebec..since they never knew John family history and they are so pleased to hear some of the story and seen some photos of the old folks..

Thanks again Cuz

Frances.

I'm the one who should be thanking you Frances. Chapeau is having Heritage day in August and some of the Meehans are there too. I contacted the priest and another member of the heritage society and will be suggesting some sort of newsletter.about it. I do have relatives in Chapeau that will be participating. It's fun playing with you. Ha.
