Is anyone else interested in Acadian / Cajun roots? My mother is a full-blooded Cajun, and I was born in Lafourche Parish, so I have been fascinated with my French-Acadian heritage. One of the best things about researching Acadian genealogy is that there are SO MANY resources! They took censuses in the 1600s, Nova Scotia has baptism, burial, and marriage records (with original images) from the first half of the 18th century in Port Royal, and there are even ship manifests that show the exiles and their destinations.

d'you here da one 'bout Boudreaux ...........

Knew I'd find you here, have fun.
I live in Canada. My Husband is Acadian (French Canadian). His ancestors are from Acadia in Nova Scotia and (after 1755) New Brunswick. I have traced his family lines back to the early 1700s and some lines to the 1600s.
He grew up with french speaking parents, but due to attending english language schools (there being no french language schools in Ontario where he was growing up) he has lost his french language skills. Now he and his brothers now speak only english. Both my in-laws have now passed away so there is NO more french spoken in our family. Fortunately our children are learning french at school.
The family lines are from Quebec but since a number of them moved from Quebec to New Brunswick (and married into Acadian families) he considers himself Acadian. Names include Duclos, Gauvin, Jean, Lozier (aka Losier & Lausier), Hache, Gallant, Rancourt, Noel, Comeau, Landry, Tardif, Oullette, Chiasson, Duguay, Gilbert, Quirion. The original county in New Brunswick where these families lived was Gloucester County, and the towns of Shippagan, Lameque, Tracadie and St Isidor.
Hello Burrow Digger,
My maternal line includes the (Jersey Channel Island) Luces etc. from the Shippagan area and you can find vintage postcards from Shippagan/Miscou, Bathurst and Caraquet on my site (http://acanadianfamily.com).
My major paternal lines are the Acadian Theriaults of Caraquet and the Acadian Legers of Moncton/Shediac N.B. plus Gallant Haches.
Evelyn Yvonne Theriault
My Great Great Grandmother was a Gerow, whose family came to New York from France in the 1700's and moved to Nrew Brunswick , Canada,
