I am trying to find childhood/early adulthood information on William R. Pitts born in Saratoga County, NY on 9 May 1815. I have not been able to find anything to confirm the birth information.
I am trying to find childhood/early adulthood information on William R. Pitts born in Saratoga County, NY on 9 May 1815. I have not been able to find anything to confirm the birth information. Unfortunately at some point in his early childhood both of his parents died (names of whom I do not know). It is my understanding that William went to live with William and Jane (McCrea) Cramer. William married Anne Fisher 25 Jan 1835 in Dryden, Tompkins, NY. I received all this information from a distant relative but without any sources. I have tried to get this information from her but have had no luck. Unfortunately NY didn't get birth or marriage records at this time. Both Saratoga and Tompkins Counties state that they didn't have anything older than what was given to the State. I can't find anything up to and including William's marriage.

I was watching a tv show that mentioned the New England Genealogical Society. I went to their website and found results when I searched for both William Pitts and William Cramer but I can't view any of the information because I am not a member.

From an old document at the Thetford Historical Society state that on May 5, 1786 "Stephen Pellom and family, Jemima Pellom, Irene Burros...." were warned out of Thetford.

In Peter Olcott's (of Norwich) account books in Dartmouth's special collections has an entry for Stephen Pellom dated Nov. 26, 1785 and states "Stephen Pellom Negro [of] Theadford."

Thetford Historical Society transcribed pages in Rev. Asa Burton's The Records of the Church of Christ in Thetford, Vt. 1773 - 1832 and states the following:

Page 145: A Record of Births for ye. year 1780
Jemima Pellom a Child born February 1780
The Son, and infant, of Jemima Pelham died March 1780

Page 211:
Stephen Pellom died October 7, 1786

The Pellom's were colored people and listed in various census records as Other Free People, Mulatto, Negro and White.

Stephen had one son that I know of named Martin Pellom/Pelham who was born abt. 1773. Martin died Apr. 27, 1850 in Guildhall, Essex County, Vermont. Have
Looking for information on my 3rd great grandparents Obadiah Daniels/Mary Anne Varney. I believe they may have been from New Hampshire originally, but that is speculation on my part. I have very little information on them. Obadiah born perhaps mid 1700's. Mary Anne born perhaps 1800/1805. I believe Obadiah was quite a bit older than Mary Anne. They had eleven children; the first a daughter Sarah, born maybe Stockbridge, VT. about 1816; the last was a son, William, born Nov 30, 1844 in FT. Ann,…

Atter the birth of the last child, Obadiah and Mary Anne seem to just disappear.
Any information on this family will be greatly appreciated. I have been caught in the same place on this family for several years. Thank you for any help. That line emanates from my LIPSCOMB line, which goes back to Thomas Lipscomb (1725-1802) & Sarah PARKHURST, then to Sarah Parkhurst's parents John Parkhurst & Abigail Sabin. I have nothing on Abigail's parents, but I imagine she comes from the same line as her Sabin descendants listed above. Meanwhile, the Parkhurts go back one more generation, to John Parkhurst and Abigail MORSE and the Morse line goes back to Stratford, England in 1434.

Meanwhile, there is the aforementioned Experience Sabin (1648-1728) and her husband Samuel BULLEN. Samuel Bullen's mother was Mary MORSE, of the same line that goes back to Stratford, England in 1434. So, the Bullens and Morses are pretty intertwined with the Sabins.

That's all my Sabins, in a nutshell.
Basically, in a single view of an ancestor, New FamilySearch =
Ancestral File + Pedigree Resource File + International Genealogical Index + LDS Membership Files
With this view of an ancestor, generally seen as a link in a pedigree, NFS will now accommodate the source citations that were not affordable or practical in the CD-ROM and Web versions of Ancestral File (36 million linked names) and the Pedigree Resource File (over 100 million linked names). Another attempt is being made to foster cooperation between active researchers. The core to NFS success in the potential for collaboration in these areas it outlines:
“ • Evaluate the accuracy of the information.
• Make corrections if needed.
• Add notes and sources.
• Dispute incorrect information.”

Can NFS or GenealogyWise or any of the multiplying educational websites (or conferences and local workshops and textbooks) truly teach the worldwide array of genealogists to evaluate genealogical and historical information? Questions bubble to a boil:
Who can tutor family historians to make corrections to this mass of data?
Who can persuade the millions of hobbyists and non-genealogists to employ notes and sources, and who can then demonstrate to them how to share appropriate citations?
Who can certify that anyone making a dispute is deserving of making any changes?
Who can arbitrate for me when one distant kin tries to add a dozen secondary sources to override the one and only original parish record which documents a christening?
Who will be prepared with the best evidence to challenge the Legacy Contributor –the original person who submitted to the Ancestral File or Pedigree Resource File?
Expecting the majority to be interested as the New FamilySearch nears its final rollout, let's first learn about its changes. Since it is such a huge resource, related groups and forums will focus on more specific features.
